Jorge Perez y Garcia (1457 - June 21, 1504) was a Spanish military and the leader of a group of settlers who founded Port Benedict. He was an experienced sailor, having done at least ten voyages in his lifetime (of which the most famous is probably his navigation of Scandinavia in 1494). In 1501, he arrived in Pintona and founded Port Benedict as a home for the settlers. Sadly, the original colony had a short life and Perz y Garcia died in June 1504 of (it is believed) malnutrition.
